A logo stamp is one of the cheapest ways to brand everything that leaves your hands: boxes, bags, business cards, tags, receipts. But a logo that looks great on a screen doesn't always stamp well. Here's how to get one that does.

1. Make it one color

A stamp prints one solid color. Grays, gradients, drop shadows, and soft glows don't carry over. If your logo has them, it becomes solid ink or blank paper, with nothing in between. Most logos have a one-color version already. If yours doesn't, we'll convert it and show you the result on your proof before anything is engraved.

2. Simplify the small stuff

Ink spreads a little on paper, and cardboard spreads it more. Very thin lines, tiny taglines, and small gaps between letters fill in. As a rule of thumb for rubber and self-inking stamps:

  • Lines at least 0.3 mm thick
  • Gaps at least 0.3 mm wide
  • Text at least 7 pt

If your logo has a long tagline or a website under it, consider leaving it off, or make it big enough to read. We flag anything too thin on your proof.

3. Pick the size by where it goes

  • 1.5" to 2": business cards, hang tags, envelopes, receipts.
  • 2" to 3": paper bags, mailers, small boxes.
  • 3" and up: shipping boxes and large bags. See the Large Custom Stamp.

Measure the longest side of your design. Each product page shows the stamp at real size next to a credit card, so you can see how big it will look.

4. Solid areas vs. outlines

Big solid shapes can ink unevenly, especially on kraft paper and cardboard, which soak up ink. An outlined version of the same shape often stamps sharper. Reversed logos (white letters inside a solid shape) work, but the bigger the solid, the more even pressure it needs.

5. Send the best file you have

Vector files (AI, EPS, SVG, PDF) are best because the edges stay perfectly sharp at any size. A PNG or JPG works too if it's at least 300 ppi at the stamp size. For a 2" stamp, that's about 600 pixels across. Don't mirror it. We reverse it for engraving.

6. Rubber, self-inking, or large?

  • Rubber stamp: wood-mounted, used with a separate ink pad. Most flexible: any ink color, any pad, including inks for kraft and fabric.
  • Self-inking stamp: built-in pad, fast and clean for stamping hundreds of cards or envelopes. One ink color per stamp.
  • Large stamp: for shipping boxes and bags, with a handle for even pressure.
